Does your self-talk need a boost?

Is your self-talk supportive and encouraging? Or are you busy berating yourself and telling yourself that you’re not good enough, unimportant and constantly comparing yourself to others?

Not so long ago, my self-talk (and therefore self-love) was shocking. To say I had a negative outlook on life and myself was a huge understatement. I was constantly beating myself up for not being pretty enough, smart enough or popular enough and I was constantly worried about what people thought of me. I didn’t trust myself one bit, let alone love myself. Heck, I’d trust a complete stranger off the street before I’d trust myself.

It was exhausting.

Daily, in fact multiple times a day, I would have feelings of worthlessness come over me and I would constantly wonder what the point to everything was. Why try so hard? Why not just give up? I lived with a constant feeling of heaviness and restriction that I couldn’t shift. I used to think that this was just the way it was. That this was my life and there was nothing I could do to change it.

I wanted desperately to change and improve my life, but I felt stuck. I had no idea how to go about making positive changes.

I tried using affirmations but they didn’t do anything. In fact, they actually made me feel worse about my life. Each time I would say an affirmation, part of me would scream back, “BUT THAT ISN’T TRUE! THAT’S NOT THE WAY IT IS! LIAR!!”.

It was debilitating, oh so frustrating and tear producing. 😢

I had come to a point where I was done with feeling this way. I was done with not feeling enough in so many ways. I was done with doubting and second guessing myself. I was done with feeling less than and unimportant. I was done with the constant negative thoughts running through my head day in and day out. I was done with feeling miserable. On the outside I looked as though I had it all together but on the inside, I was a mess.

That's when I started searching for tools to help me change my inner dialogue. Something had to change. I had to saturate my mind with new thoughts, new words, and new beliefs. And to help me do that, I turned to colouring.

Why?

Because colouring allowed my brain to feel safe and relaxed. It took my attention away from myself, my problems and thoughts and into the peace and calm of the present moment. It was like I was meditating, only I was colouring. It gave me time out from the craziness that was going on in my head.

Bit by bit (I coloured a lot, lol) I saturated my mind with new beliefs and ways of thinking that served me better.

There was no resistance, no heaviness and no inner voice constantly berating me. There was just a sense of calm. A calmness I had rarely experienced before.

Colouring calmed my brain.

Whenever I’d feel anxious or down, I’d allow myself to get lost in a colouring page. They gave me an escape, a creative outlet and a few moments of calm from my overactive and judgmental brain.

Through colouring (amongst many other tools), I have been able to rewire my brain to believe differently and to see myself and the world in a very different way.

Colouring was also fun for me. It kept my conscious mind busy and occupied, which enabled my subconscious mind to be more accessible.

You see, I’ve learnt a lot about brains over the past few years. Our conscious brain acts as the gatekeeper to our subconscious mind. If the conscious mind hears something that doesn’t fit the story it has been wired with, it will automatically reject the idea, preventing it from reaching the subconscious mind. This is why when we start saying a new affirmation, it often doesn’t work.

My whole life I have never been able to truly say and believe that I was enough just the way I was. Each time it would bring up a ton of resistance. The weird thing though was that while I was colouring, I was able to say the affirmations without any resistance at all. It was as though my brain was in a different state- it was actually in a calm, relaxed and kind of meditative state.

Not only that, I started experimenting with not just saying the affirmations but fully stepping into the affirmation, and letting it become part of me.

And it worked!!

Colouring allowed me to rewire my brain and create new and more empowered beliefs and thoughts about myself and life in general.

And the best part about these colouring pages is that they are digital downloads, which means, once you have purchased them - you can print them out over and over and over again. There’s no limit to how many times you can experiment with these colouring pages.
